About
Miramax Film Corporation is a privately held motion picture production and distribution company. Miramax Film Corporation was founded in 1979 by Harvey and Bob Weinstein and was named after the fusion of the first names of their parents, Miriam and Max. Headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, Miramax is behind a series of Oscar winning films, including Shakespeare in Love (1998), Chicago (2002), and No Country for Old Men (2007). In July 2010, Walt Disney Company announced that it had agreed to sell its subsidiary, Miramax, to a group of investors led by Ronald N. Tutor (please see PrivCo's M&A table for further information on this transaction). In 2011, Echo Bridge Entertainment and Miramax signed a deal to distribute 251 of Miramax's film library titles--including the From Dusk Till Dawn and Children of the Corn franchises--via DVD and Blu-ray to retailers.
